Location Guides by County and City

Find the guide for the community, then check which county or city office controls a street, a park or an event there before placing a unit.

Most of the communities below are unincorporated Census places rather than towns with their own government. Bon Air, Short Pump and Mechanicsville have no town hall, so the county decides who can place a unit in a road, a park or a school field. Richmond, Petersburg, Colonial Heights and Hopewell are independent cities, separate from the surrounding counties, and each runs its own permit and event process. The guides are grouped the same way. Each place guide names a venue or rule that changes a placement and links the official source. Give the street address when you call, and your rental contact plans delivery and servicing for that location.

City of Richmond

The City of Richmond handles events on public property through a Special Events Request and any unit in a street, sidewalk or alley through a Work in Streets Permit from Public Works. The Richmond guide covers the Fan and the city's other town-house blocks.

Chesterfield County

Chester, Midlothian, Bon Air and the other Chesterfield communities are unincorporated, so county offices decide. Chesterfield Parks asks for an event rental application at least 30 days ahead and makes organizers responsible for vendor insurance certificates (county source). School fields and association pavilions have separate approvals.

Henrico County

Henrico requires a permit for outdoor events on county park property, with applications 30 days ahead, and weighs equipment needs in its review (county source). A unit in a county road needs Henrico's own right-of-way permit. Wyndham's association facilities follow the association's rules.

Hanover and Prince George counties

Hanover Parks reserves the right to refuse a shelter request (source). Mechanicsville is in Hanover County and Prince George is in Prince George County, so each county's own office answers the permit question. Prince George's permit checklist excludes private parties and outdoor weddings (source).

Independent cities: Petersburg, Colonial Heights and Hopewell

Each city runs its own process. Hopewell requires a Special Event Permit for events on public property, or on private property that could affect the right-of-way, with applications 30 days ahead (source). Petersburg's special events review can involve Public Works and the Health Department (source). Colonial Heights keeps parks open to the public during pavilion rentals (source).
